When You're Struggling To Have A Baby: Understanding Your Fertility Options

Blog

The struggle to conceive a baby is a very stressful time in the lives of a couple. Each month conception doesn't happen can bring feelings of despair, hopelessness, and failure. According the National Infertility Association, one in eight couples have a difficult time with either conception or carrying the pregnancy to maturity. If you and your partner have been having unprotected sex for over a year with no success, you may be ready for infertility treatments. If you are a woman who is over 35 years old, infertility treatments may be a reasonable choice if you have been trying for over six months.

Medication to Stimulate Egg Production

A common reason women don't get pregnant is due to a lack of egg production. Clomid is a medication used to stimulate ovulation, and it is beneficial for women of any age who are struggling to get pregnant because of a lack of viable eggs. When ovulation occurs, the egg is at the stage where it is ready to be fertilized. Couples trying to get pregnant will need to have sexual intercourse while the woman is ovulating.

Fertility Issues Tests

Infertility can be due to problems with the male partner such as a low sperm count, issues with a woman struggling to produce quality eggs, or a combination of problems that affect both the male and female. Most couples have no idea why they can't conceive and getting tests to determine what is the cause is one of the first steps in the process.

In Vitro Fertilization

In vitro fertilization is a process. In this process, the woman undergoes an egg retrieval process and the man has to donate sperm in a nearby room. In a lab setting, any eggs that are produced are manually introduced to the sperm in an effort to create embryos. It includes a series of injections for the female to stimulate egg production and one to induce ovulation so that the eggs can be harvested. The process of egg harvesting is done under sedation and is generally a well tolerated procedure. Once embryos are created, one, two, or even three will be transferred to the uterus of the woman in 3 or 5 days post egg retrieval.

ER or Urgent Care? How to Decide when Ill

I am a mother of four wonderful children, and like other parents, I have been to my fair share of health care clinics. It seems like my children are always getting scrapes and coming down with colds. When I was a new parent, I never knew whether I should take my injured or ill child to the emergency room or local urgent care facility. I received some simple advice from a seasoned parent that made my decisions easier that I want to pass onto all new parents, along with other health tips I've learned. he told me that she tended to take her children to the ER when they were bleeding or had very high temperatures and took them to the local urgent care for any other problem. I have followed her advice ever since, and my children remain healthy and happy!
